The 2018 Ford Fiesta has arrived and has some rather big shoes to fill, as its predecessor proved to be one of Ford’s best-selling models, especially in Europe.

Only problem is that the competition is now significantly tougher and the new Fiesta has to prove that it has what it takes to take on the segment’s best.

Despite the new Fiesta riding on a re-engineered version of predecessor’s platform, Ford focused on improving the build quality of their supermini, with body gaps said to be tighter than ever and the interior using high-quality materials and being more tightly screwed together.

Adopting the latest SYNC3 infotainment system is also one of the highlights of the new Fiesta, with either a 6.5- or an 8-inch floating touchscreen display.

Customers are able to choose between four trims: the base Titanium, the sporty ST-Line, the luxurious Vignale and the pseudo-offroader Active.

The engine range has also been simplified, offering the turbocharged 1.0-liter three-pot EcoBoost unit in 100PS, 125PS and 140PS versions, all paired to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. Those interested in a diesel can choose between 85 or 120 PS variants of the 1.5-liter TDCi.

Ford has added one of the most comprehensive ranges of driver assistance systems, which now comes with technologies like Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Active Park Assist with Perpendicular Parking, Cross Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control and more.

However, and despite the slightly increased dimensions of the body, the new Fiesta doesn’t offer the same room inside with some of its newest rivals, such as the Seat Ibiza and the VW Polo. But is it an altogether better car? Click on the video below to find Carwow’s verdict.
