A couple in Thailand have been lucky to walk away from a near-fatal incident at a construction site.
Horrifying dashcam footage captured the moment a heavy steel pipe slipped from a crane and fell to the ground, smashing the front of a Mercedes-Benz C-Class and leaving the female passenger with minor injuries.
Images and videos from the local media reveal just how close the two occupants of the C-Class were to being hit and killed by the pipe. In fact, if it had fallen just a couple of feet to the left, both could have died.
As the pipe fell, it also scraped the rear end of an MG GS parked just in front of the Mercedes-Benz. The airbags in the C-Class were deployed after the pipe came crashing down and the luxurious sedan is now nothing more than an expensive piece of scrap.
It remains unclear how the pipe slipped from the crane and why extra safety provisions weren’t put in place to ensure commuters were not in harms way. The construction company responsible for the incident probably didn’t factor in buying a Mercedes-Benz and repairing an MG in their budget – seriously, though, it’s very fortunate that no one was really hurt.
