Jaguar Could Reshuffle Range, Become An All-EV Brand Within 10 Years

Electrification is all the rage these days, and JLR executives are thinking about taking it one step further, making Jaguar an all-electric brand within the next decade.

Autocar reports product planners from Jaguar have presented a strategy that would see the automaker’s range of international combustion engine vehicles phased out over the next five to seven years and be replaced by electric powertrains.

The first model in this plan calls for an electric successor to the XJ, which would become Jag’s rival to the likes of the Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model S, Aston Martin Rapide E, and Audi‘s forthcoming e-tron sedan. It is claimed that this new-age XJ will be the most luxurious Jaguar ever and come complete with distinctive exterior and interior designs.

Elsewhere within the Jaguar range, it is reported that the existing XE and XF will be axed in the middle of next decade in favor of an electric crossover that’s a touch larger than the Audi e-tron SUV. The marque’s range could be simplified further by both the the E-Pace and F-Pace being replaced by the next-generation I-Pace.

If the strategy gets the go-ahead, the popular F-Type sports car will be axed in the early 2020s. This would leave Jaguar with just a single ICE model in its range: the upcoming J-Pace luxury crossover that’s designed as a rival to the Porsche Cayenne. An electric replacement to it could launch in the late 2020s.

Estimates indicate an all-electric Jaguar range consisting of four or five models could sell as many as 300,000 units annually. This year, Jaguar is expected to sell just 175,200 vehicles globally and it’s thought that a reinvented range could spark renewed interest in the car manufacturer.

Turning Jaguar into an electric-only brand would also dramatically lower Jaguar Land Rover’s company-average CO2 emissions. This would reduce pressure on Land Rover from building electrified vehicles that may not be well-received by the brand’s customers.

  • I doubt it, Jaguar itself still has a rather small profit compare to other big brand, they can’t really transform into EV in such short notice.
