Ford Mach-E: What If The Mustang-Inspired Electric SUV Looked Like This?

Ford’s Mustang-derived all-electric crossover has been confirmed for a late 2020 debut, boasting a driving range of 370 miles (600 km), to go with its sporty driving character.

Dubbed ‘Mach 1’ or according to this trademark application, ‘Mach-E’ (for now), its unveiling will reportedly take place later this year, putting Tesla’s Model X on notice in terms of its EV range, even though the Ford will probably be smaller in size and therefore less roomy.

The Michigan-based automaker has also hinted that the Mach 1 will feature a charging process that is an “effortless experience at home and on the road,” while adding that it is “redesigning the ownership experience to ensure it addresses customer pain points that currently hold back broad adoption [of electric cars].”

That’s all well and good, but what about looks?

Since cars are also fashion accessories and lifestyle statements of sorts, Ford needs to ensure that its electrified crossover is visually appealing, which is where the Mustang characteristics come into play. Now, if for example the car ends up looking very much like a jacked-up Mustang, then this render from Kolesa might help put that into perspective.

It’s a very dynamic design, as you can see, with beefy fenders, Mustang-derived front and rear fascias and a Fastback silhouette, which makes perfect sense in this SUV Coupe era that we’re in.

Ultimately, we’re curious to hear what you have to say. Would you rather Ford show more originality when it comes to this upcoming crossover, or is a design similar to this rendering sufficiently appealing to you? We could honestly go either way.

  • B. D.

    I’m all set.

  • Six_Tymes

interesting. I think it looks better than the Mustang

  • TheBelltower

Sure, okay. Probably no need for tailpipes.

    • Bash

      Thumb up.

    • atomicbri

      Bahaha OMG right? Horrible render.

  • That Ross Chap

That it’s nice Ford hires the severely visually impaired.

    • Liam Paul

wait do you think ford design the one in the pic? lol

      • That Ross Chap

Oh god no, obviously – the question in the title though was ‘What if it looked like this?’, and that is exactly how I’d respond if that was the case.

  • Honda NSX-R

    Kill it with fire

  • charlotteharry57

Total insult to the Mustang name.

    • Skitz

It actually looks Better than the POS Mustang!! Throw some big tires on it & go mud bogging!! I bet it will out perform the Mustang in all areas!!

      • Mr. EP9

No it doesn’t and it won’t. You’re delusional.

  • Liam Paul

It’s not bad, I guess I could get use to it, I see what the artist was going for, give it a hatch and raise it off the ground like those AWD eagle wagons in the early 80s

  • Nick

“Enthusiasts” will jack off to atrocious shooting brake renderings done by some 14 year old in Photoshop, but will claim this would be ugly as sin.

  • Stephen G

WOW! Kudos to Nikita! Very nice render. Although, in looking at this I can’t help but wonder what the target demographic may be. Is this the poor man’s i-Pace? Will this be the vehicle to spark Millennials into being emotional about cars? Or could this fill the void left by the PT Cruiser?

  • Dude

If Ford’s designers have a single brain cell between them it won’t look like that

  • Luc Helterbrand

its like seeing your girlfriend’s mother. Yeah i see the obvious similarities but its kind of fat and ugly now.

    • Thunderbolt

my girlfriend is 19, her mom is super hot 41

  • Dylan Wentworth

    No please. No.

  • paulgdeaton

    Just. Say. No,

  • Mr. EP9

No. It’s a jacked up Ford door Mustang and it doesn’t look good.

  • Subi-Rubicon1

I rather like it. I don’t think it looks bad, it’d look better with out the Mustang bits.

  • Jay

Darn it, I kind of like it.

  • Elpatore

    very audi-ish

  • Corey Vire

If porche can go from 911s to Cheyennes then Ford can do this. It looks good.

  • J. P.

    Much better, I agree

  • Honda NSX-R

    Yeah I like this better

  • Wayne Jones

Interesting concept, I like most of the design perhaps refreshed tail lights not identical to the sports coupe though?

  • john1168

It’s not bad looking but it is very confusing looking. Like it doesn’t know what it wants to be.

    • donald seymour

Your state sums up my thoughts quite well. Bravo.

  • IT’S EXTRAORDINARILY STUPID FOR FORD TO PISS ON THE MUSTANG LEGACY.

  • Harry_Wild

    Much more attractive!

  • Maykel

    E-tron

  • Eythan Aldrich

    this one is better

  • FunctionForm

If they want to mess around creating different iterations of a nameplate that will fail, bring back the Thunderbird. You could have two doors, four doors, sport utility, electric, hybrid diesel, suicide door sport utility, landau top sport utility, Thunderbird II, Rather than Lipstick, they could call the new red color MAGA. It’s a sure winner.

  • d’Aforde

Porsche was smart enough to make its sedans and SUVs resemble a 911, especially in the front, but none of them look like a 911 on stilts. An SUV with hints of Mustang, like the grill and the side profile would look good. A Mustang with 8 inches of ground clearance? Not so much.

  • Ricki Boo

then it would be extremely derivative.

  • Holmer_k

It looks fine to me, but why?

  • tt tt

It looks stupid but I really really like it……..

  • Paul

Just look what Chevy has done to the storied Blazer name. Now this. I actually quite like it in a macho or butch kind of a way but it would still be oh so wrong. Somehow the term “shooting brake” come to mind when I see it too.
