BMW has just given us a first peek of the upcoming 8-Series Gran Coupe in the form of a short teaser video released on social media that shows the executive car driving surrounded by mist.

As much as the automaker may be trying to keep things a secret for now, previous spy shots, patents and renderings have allowed us to make a clear picture of what it will look like. Think of it as an 8-Series Coupe with two extra doors and similar aggressive, yet subtle, styling details on the outside, along with the same cabin layout, albeit with more space on the back seat and a bigger boot.

The engine lineup will be shared between all three members of the 8er family, namely the Coupe, Cabriolet and Gran Coupe. The M850i is powered by a 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V8 pushing out 530 PS (523 hp) and the 840i by a 340 PS (335 hp) turbocharged inline-six, while the 840d gets a 3.0-liter oil-burner rated at 320 PS (315 hp / 235 kW).

BMW’s M performance division has been tasked with coming up with an M8 version of the GC, too, that is expected to use the current M5’s V8 tuned to more than 600 HP.

According to the car firm, the 8-Series Gran Coupe, which will take a swing at the Audi A7 Sportback, Mercedes-Benz CLS and Porsche Panamera, will debut soon.
