While SUVs and crossovers continue to gain popularity throughout the world, there are some car manufacturers exploring the world of innovative new city cars with revived vigor.
One of the most noteworthy examples of this is Honda with its all-electric e hatchback. Now, designer Denni5 Cheng has designed a vehicle which takes the idea of the city car and gives it an interesting twist.
Dubbed the Mobility R3, it doesn’t come from an existing car manufacturer but is instead a standalone mobility concept rendered for the year 2035. It only has space for one occupant but can be operated in two unique configurations.

For regular driving, the three-wheeled vehicle extends out and the occupant relaxes in a lounge chair-like seat. When needed, the wheelbase of the R3 can be shortened, raising the cabin into a more upright position. Whereas the vehicle could prove to be more stable at higher speeds in its long-wheelbase mode, it could prove particularly useful in tight city streets in its upright position – not to mention exceptionally easy to park too.
As the R3 has been designed for the year 2035, it is loaded with futuristic components, including all-glass doors and in-wheel electric motors which recuperate energy typically lost during braking to charge the battery. The concept also features fully-autonomous driving capabilities, but if the driver chooses, there is a steering wheel that can extend out of the dashboard so they can take over whenever they wish or have to.
