Clarkson Says The Grand Tour Scrapped Middle East Roadtrip Plans Over Safety Concerns

Jeremy Clarkson has revealed that The Grand Tour had to cancel ambitious plans for an epic road trip in the Middle East over safety concerns.

Writing in his Sunday Times column, as reported by Express, Clarkson said that the team was considering a trip from Saudi Arabia across to Cairo, Egypt but decided against it.

“This would be an epic journey, except it would mean crossing the Sinai peninsula and, thanks to Isis, the chances of us all arriving on the other side with heads were slim,” he wrote.

The Grand Tour’s fourth season will be focused exclusively on epic road trips in exotic parts of the world and Clarkson says the Middle East isn’t the only region the production crew has decided against exploring.

According to Clarkson, The Grand Tour looked into Thailand’s Andaman Islands but decided against filming there due to the presence of a violent tribe on one of the islands. Additionally, Clarkson says that a trip to Australia isn’t on the cards because it wouldn’t be interesting enough to fans and media scrutiny in the country could make organizing such a trip difficult.

There is no word on when The Grand Tour’s fourth season will premiere but it could be some way off as both James May and Richard Hammond are embarking on other television projects. May recently commenced filming of his new series Our Man In Japan and Hammond is the face of a new docu-series dubbed Big for the Discovery network.
