Spied In The USA: Hey There, Peugeot 3008, You’re On The Wrong Continent!

Yes, Peugeot is going to return to the United States and Canada for the first time since the early 1990s, but they’re still a few years away from doing so. This brings us the obvious question of ‘what was this 3008 doing in Detroit?’

Snapped by a Redditer who claims to have panicked the driver of the French compact crossover when he saw the camera, allegedly making him run a red light, it looks like it could blend into the scenery quite easily.

As for the answer to the above question, it may be related to a number of things, such as testing of parts conducted by another company. However, we cannot exclude Peugeot looking for an early piece of the crossover action on this side of the Atlantic Ocean either.

Chances are, we’ll never find out what it’s doing so far away from home, but we will remind you that the compact crossover a potential candidate for launching in North America. Just a couple of months ago, Peugeot CEO, Jean-Philippe Imparato, said that  “when we launched the 3008, the feedback we got, including form California, was ‘wow, this car is super’”.

Other Peugeots that may be eligible for crossing the pond are the 508 mid-size sedan and estate, the 5008 seven-seat crossover and perhaps the 308 compact hatch. The latter is in for a significant makeover and could launch here as a potential Volkswagen Golf and Toyota Corolla Hatchback rival.

Peugeot is present on the Mexican market. That’s most certainly a Mexican that drove a 3008 into the US. Not so uncommon.

    Also, what’s a “Redditer”? smh…

    • Androuffle

Plausible but… why no licence plate ?

      • Trey Bellamy

Possibly explains why he got spooked when he saw the camera.

      • probably a test car, Peugeot is looking at re-entering the US market. And they still work with GM, so who knows…

      • Netsphere

        who the hell is that?

        • SamBamm

          …WHAT the hell is it?!

    • J-Triumf

I agree to a certain extent. The new interiors of Peugeots are really good looking, especially with the high-mounted digital gauges, but the exteriors are definitely way too front-long and boxy now.

      • Adam

It’s funny how we all have different likes and dislikes. I can’t stand the high-set gauges, so much so that even though Peugeot’s are available here in Australia I won’t consider one because of those gauges.

        • J-Triumf

The higher gauges just make more sense to me, both ergonomically and aesthetically. I drive a 2009 Civic and I love having a digital speedometer above the steering wheel and closer to my line of sight; besides being easier for me to read, it also just looks plain cool, and I wish more cars had such a setup.

        • Romain AA

Have you tried it? Once you set up the right sitting position, it feels gauges should have never been anywhere else in the first place

          • Adam

Yeah I’ve tried it. Hated it.

  • SgtBeavis

Hmm, that doesn’t suck. I really dig the interior.

    • Adilos Nave

No kidding!! I had to go back to see if this was a concept car. That interior is sweet.

Just rented a fully equipped 3008 for a few days in the mountain with lots of rugged dirt roads. A really great drive.
Suspensions, driving position, grip, infotainment, really loved it.

    • keitj

I would try the car without grip control before you add thus to the car because many say it make little to know difference. To be honest I gave to agree I gave owned two 3008 one with grip control and on without and I found the electric controls on the standard car compensated just as good as the grip control car

  • Maximilian Norlande Rabbitt

If/ when it comes, They’d better not change the name. I’m looking forward to saying Peugeot 3K8 (3008 sounds like a mouthful)

    • keitj

Three double o 8 not a mouth full

  • keitj

Well they sell the car in Mexico and a numbervhave found there way across the boarder and to be honest they are better than any American car

    • PK

any european cars are better than american! especially better than tesla! xD

      • James Denz

        That’s pretty funny.

      • DGC

The Tesla Model X turns my stomach… The Aztec had better lines….

      • sidewaysspin

European cars are unreliable and badly engineered even the German ones, the best cars are Japanese.

        • PK

          the japs? lmfao

    • dumblikeyou2

So they’re able to drive around in Mexico, cross the border, drive all the way up to Detroit all the while without license plates? That’s brilliant. Yes, I’ll take your advice on which automobiles don’t suck.

  • alexxx

    You have no clue…

  • Androuffle

Used to be… not anymore ! Better reliability and driving dynamics than American cars and better design than Japanese/Korean cars. They can make forget 80/90’s Peugeot and Renault that were sold in the US/Canada !!!

  • Astonman

Saw several of these in Ireland. Really liked them. They would be on my list. They’re sized just right.

  • pao

I have 3008 for one year now and it is awesome ?

  • Avtomad

This model has been out for several years now and still looks remarkably fresh, I’m sure it would do well in the US.

  • Not a bad car. But I don’t think it’ll sell well in USA where you can buy a three row, fully loaded minivan for half the price.

    • Matt

Half the price? Nobody knows how much this will sell for in the USA.

  • Romain AA

you obviously still live in 1985. Come and join us in the real world

    • Michael_66589

I live in real world (Europe) and know a lot about cars from that market.

      • DMJ

I hope that you drive a Toyota, because the reliability of a modern Peugeot, Alfa Romeo, VW or BMW is not much different between them, as anyone without biased perspectives know. I only have german cars (bmw) and even I can see that Peugeots are becoming great cars.
