G21 BMW M3 Touring Would Give Audi And Mercedes A Serious Headache

Station wagons have fallen victim to SUVs’ popularity way before saloons did – and yet, certain carmakers haven’t shied away from building ridiculously quick versions of what would otherwise be regular family cars with a somewhat boring-looking rear section.

Whether it’s the Audi RS4/RS6 Avant combo, or the AMG-powered C63 or E63 Wagon, you’re definitely not short on power and noise with any of those four. And in the end, you’re still left with a very practical and reasonably roomy car.

The fact that BMW has yet to build a Touring version of its M3 sedan is not without reason. Until recently, or at least until somebody in charge decides otherwise, an M3 Touring simply didn’t gel with the automaker’s image – after all, how could the “ultimate driving machine” also be the ultimate dad-mobile?

Well, rules are meant to be broken, and if a report from last year is to be believed, BMW has considered introducing an M3 Touring to the world. According to Autocar, such a project would require minimal development costs.

If the M3 Touring would end up looking anything like this render by Aksyonov Nikita, we reckon buyers will be reasonably happy, especially since in reality, it would have even wider fenders to accommodate the M3’s tracks.

Anyway, while an M3 Touring might not be on the picture, the upcoming Sedan will be powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six with a maximum output of around 474 HP (480 PS). Which should be more than enough for an estate as well – OK, OK, just saying…

if they do, ill start saving my pennies now

  • Mr. EP9

Too bad they’ll never make it. When’s the last time BMW made an M3 Wagon that actually went into production?

  • Daniela Wolf

Just take a RS4 instead of this.

  • Porkopolis

BMW will do this on the next gen M3, but not after they’re sure they’ve lost all their original fans that would’ve loved an M3 wagon the past three decades.

BMW could probably get away with a 10% premium for the wagon too. At least for a little while.

Doesn’t make a difference to me, as neither 340 or M3 will be available in Australia again no doubt 🙁
