Used 2016 GranTurismo MC Is A Maserati Worth Buying

If you’d like to own a modern luxury GT with excellent performance and clever onboard tech, then you’ll probably want to stay away from any Maserati GranTurismo model, regardless of how new it is.

However, if you just want a comfortable, loud and fun-to-drive exotic at a good price and don’t mind buying used, the GT suddenly starts making sense, especially if you go for a low-mileage MC model, according to Doug DeMuro.

The car he reviewed here is a three year old MC and it comes with a naturally aspirated 4.7-liter V8 engine, good for 454 HP (460 PS) and 383 lb-ft (520 Nm) of torque. While performance isn’t astonishing by today’s standards, the car is still plenty quick and the exhaust note is delightfully loud – one of the best in the industry, said the reviewer.

Still, what he enjoyed most about the MC was the handling, saying that it was “very quick, very spry, very enjoyable to send around corners,” despite its long body. It also presented little body roll, sharp steering and excellent acceleration, even though it’s not on the same level as a Mercedes-AMG GT.

In a straight line, the Maserati GT MC needs 4.7 seconds to get from zero to 62 mph (60 mph), before maxing out at 187 mph (301 km/h). These numbers would have been pretty great if this was 2009, but for 2019, they’re not quite what you’d be getting in say a Porsche 911, or something like the previously-mentioned AMG GT.

In the end, the GranTurismo makes for a solid purchase as long as you don’t buy a brand new one. Thankfully, they tend to depreciate rather quickly.

He says it’s the worst car in the segment but the fact that 3 years later it’s worth half of it’s original price makes it a great car? Does he think that this is the only car in the segment that depreciates. AMG GT from the same year will also cost half of what it was new so why would you get the Maserati.

    • I’m not a fan of how I fit into the AMG GT-____ (fill in the variant blank here)… but have not driven the Maserati. Also don’t like the visibility of the AMG. But they are a hoot to drive, of course. I think the AMG has the BEST center console ever. If one can’t have a front bench seat, of course; or swivel buckets.

How can you dislike the design of the GranTurismo? It may have horribly outdated interior, but it’s still a gorgeous car on the outside.

I cant imagine the cost of maintaining this car. Good looking though, especially in that red.

No Maserati is ever worth buying.

I have been looking for exactly what the video suggests – a used Maserati GT. Dealers are offering brand new 2018 cars at steep discounts, so this is not a car that sells well. I have a 2008 Quattoporte however and I love the looks of the car.
It also sounds great. My car has been very reliable over the 75,000 miles that I have driven it. Sure, maintenance is expensive, but so it is with many others. Yes they depreciate – I could have bought four Toyota 4-Runners for the price I paid for my Maserati in 2008, and today one such car of that vintage is worth up to twice what I could get for my Maserati.
But the pleasure of driving it, the beauty when I walk up to it, and the sound when I need to merge with turnpike traffic – worth a lot more than the present used asking prices.

Right now, in Tampa Florida, you can buy a brand new 2018 GT with a list price of $147,000, for $99,000. Still high, but give it a few years. All the stuff about the “technology” is not relevant. Who cares about heated seats and greasy touch screens? I use my phone for navigation. I like having an old tech key. I hate the screens that are too big (especially in the vertical dimension). Get an older one. Make up your mind, would you rather date Sophia Loren or Angela Merkel? In 11 years of owning a 4-door Maserati I had adults in the back seat twice, for short trips. This was a beautiful car when it was first released, is a beautiful car today, and will remain a beautiful car far into the future.
