Mopar predicted that the Jeep Gladiator would beat the Wrangler in terms of accessories sales before it was even launched, and after a few months on the market, it seems they were right.

Gladiator owners spend an average of $1,000 in accessories from Mopar, pushing Wrangler drivers to the second spot on the list as they tend to shell out around $800, AutoNews reports.

Jeep made sure that its dealer network was ready for the accessory demand before the Gladiator went on sale. This meant that dealerships had more than 90 percent of Mopar accessories available when the mid-sized pickup truck was launched.

Kim Mathers, Mopar’s head of performance and accessories, said that they are planning to offer even more parts to customers in addition to accessories like steel-tube doors, military-grade LED lights, various racks, lift kits and protective rock rails that are already available.

“We had always expected Gladiator to do well from an accessories dollars-per-unit perspective because it really can draw upon the Jeep world, which is big from an accessories perspective, but also the truck world, so it’s being able to build upon both,” said Mathers.

Mopar is currently paying attention to how Gladiator buyers are modifying their vehicles in order to keep the momentum going. Consumer feedback at events such as the annual Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah and the SEMA show will influence how Mopar’s accessory range will develop in the near future, said Mark Bosanac, head of Mopar service, parts and customer care.

“We’re coming up with new ideas, we’re getting input from customers, we’re going to these other events in Moab and SEMA, and we’re taking that information,” Bosanac said. “A lot of us are going out and working and trying to find out, ‘Hey, what else could we possibly do? What are you looking for on a vehicle?’ ”
