Hyundai Nexo And Tucson FCVs Have Racked Up Over 8.4 Million Miles In The U.S.

Hyundai has announced that its hydrogen Nexo and Tucson Fuel Cell SUVs have accumulated more than 8.4 million miles (13.5 million km) of driving across the United States.

There’s no doubt that the market for hydrogen-powered vehicles remains small, particularly due to the limited refueling infrastructure that makes them impractical to own. Nonetheless, the distance raked up by Nexo and Tucson models in the U.S. is the equivalent of 17 round-trip journeys to the surface of the Moon.

“Celebrating National Hydrogen Day 2019, we couldn’t be more proud of our NEXO and former Tucson Fuel Cell’s direct impact in reducing harmful greenhouse emissions in our planet,” vice president of Product, Corporate and Digital Planning, Hyundai Motor America, Michael O’Brien said. “As our hydrogen refueling infrastructure continues to grow in California and into the northeastern U.S., we eagerly anticipate the exponential reduction in emissions it will bring, resulting in a cleaner atmosphere for everyone.”

Customer deliveries of the U.S.-market Hyundai Nexo kicked off in the final days of 2018 with a base price of $58,300, undercutting the Toyota Mirai by $65 before incentives from the state of California which are worth up to $5000. The hydrogen SUV is offered in Nexo Blue and Nexo Limited guises with the latter being more luxurious and costing a touch more. Range for the Nexo Blue sits at 380 miles (611 km) while the Nexo Limited can travel up to 354 miles (569 km) before owners have to find a hydrogen refueling station.

While many car manufacturers are focusing their attention on zero-emissions vehicles in the form of EVs, some, like Hyundai, Toyota, Honda, and Audi, are also working on hydrogen cars that are seen by many as the ultimate solution for zero-emission vehicles.

National Hydrogen Day 2019? We’ve got to stop making stupid celebration days. If you want a damn doughnut, go get one, we don’t need a doughnut day or national taco day. Damn, I fully expect Dyson to release their next vacuum model on National Vacuum Appreciation Day.

    • boo boo the fool

uhm we ~actually~ DO need a donut day…

Daaammmmn…. where did it hurt you

Dude, I’m just so sick of these foolish days that get promoted on the radio, television, internet, stores, etc. I don’t need a day to tell me when to buy something. Seriously, just lookup the National Days and be amazed at the stupidity. Oh, and don’t forget, today is National I Love Lucy Day. Yesterday was National Bald and Free Day.

When there are so many of them, not only do less of them have a significance, but less and less of them are days that you can actually share – in solidarity – with other people lol.

Most of these days were thought up by a PR/HR/non-profit group of individuals anyways to increase consumer spending or divert it towards a cause.

then we should stop celebrating our birthday

These foolish “National XYZ Days” are typically designed in order to stimulate consumer purchasing. Great examples would be National Taco or National Doughnut Day. They’re net gains for the doughnut industry and those selling tacos.

Birthdays can also stimulate consumer purchasing(birthday cake and gifts), but at least at the end of the day you’re showing an appreciation for someone you love and care about.

This car’s design has so much potential, but until they make it look like a luxury car crossover, for the money, I’d still, hands down, rather have a Tesla Model 3 any day.

I’m not rich so its hybrids and plug-in hybrids for me.
