The owner of a Mercedes-AMG GT experienced first-hand the devastation water can cause to a car after crashing into a Range Rover and a fire hydrant in Koreatown, Los Angeles earlier this week.

Videos shared on Facebook and posted up by the guys over at Jalopnik show a silver Mercedes-AMG GT sitting on top of a fire hydrant that can be seen flooding the sports car.

The Facebook user who shared the videos says that the young owner of the Mercedes sped through a red light and smashed into a black Range Rover at a claimed 60 mph (96 km/h). No one is thought to have been injured in the crash.

The Range Rover is only visible briefly in the two videos shared on Facebook and it looks as though it sustained a fairly serious shunt to its front fascia although it should be repairable.

We have a suspicion that the Mercedes-AMG GT may not be so lucky because these videos show huge volumes of water flooding the sports car, inevitably putting the various gaskets to good use designed to keep water out of the car. Regardless of whether water found its way into important electronics, the damage sustained to the driver’s side front quarter panel and wheel probably mean the car will be declared a write-off.

Hopefully the Mercedes driver was insured to be behind the wheel and the innocent Range Rover driver won’t have to fork out any money for repairs to their expensive SUV.
