Honda has issued a recall for certain 2019-2020 Pilot and 2019 Passport models, after identifying that a small number of them left the factory with incomplete body welds.
The issue is located between the front frame’s left and right side upper members and the unibody, which might not be welded together increasing the risk of injury for the driver and occupants.
Honda will notify owners and dealers to inspect the models for missing welds free of charge, and in the case of finding an affected vehicle, the dealer will offer to buy back the car or provide a new one as a replacement.

The Japanese car maker says that just ten vehicles are affected by incomplete welding; one 2019 Passport, four 2019 Pilots and another five 2020 Pilots. The issue is fully traceable and vehicles that will not be included in the recall are not affected by any improper welding.
Honda will start sending the notifications to owners on December 13. Owners of the 2019-2020 Pilot and 2019 Passport models can contact Honda’s customer service at 1-888-234-2138 or NHTSA’s Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
This isn’t the first time Honda has trouble with welding; back in September the Japanese car maker had to recall 134 examples of the 2019 CR-V due to a bad joint weld between the fuel tank and the vapor return line, which if it failed it could end up in a fuel leak and a potential fire hazard.
