Porsche and Star Wars joined forces this week for the Asia Pacific premiere of the all-electric Taycan.

The unveiling, held in Singapore, saw a white Porsche Taycan flanked by a number Stormtroopers as it was driven out on stage when being launched at The Float at Marina Bay overlooking the city.

Will the Porsche Taycan ever be featured in a future film from the Star Wars franchise? Probably not; however, last month it was revealed that the German automaker was collaborating with Lucasfilm to design a new starship that will feature in the latest Star Wars film titled The Rise of Skywalker.

A Positive Review: Is The Taycan A True Porsche? Yes, Indeed – And Then Some

“Asia Pacific is an important sales region for Porsche – with a continuously growing customer and fan base,” vice president region overseas and emerging markets of Porsche, Matthias Becker said. “With the Taycan, we are entering a new era and this spirit fits perfectly with the iconic Star Wars brand and the joint event here in Singapore.”

Customers in Asia Pacific will be able to purchase the Taycan from 2020. Porsche has yet to state which variants will be sold in this region, although its press release detailing the local launch only makes mention of the range-topping Taycan Turbo and Turbo S models as opposed to the more affordable Taycan 4S recently unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The flagship Taycan Turbo S uses a 93.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack coupled to a pair of electric motors that deliver up to 750 HP and 774 lb-ft (1050 Nm) of torque with the Overboost function enabled. Porsche quotes a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of just 2.8 seconds.

Perhaps even more impressive than how quickly the Taycan accelerates is how fast it can be charged. The car manufacturer says that thanks to the 800-volt architecture, the EV’s battery can be juiced up to 80 per cent capacity in as little as 22.5 minutes.
