There’s Only One Issue With This Ford GT40 That’s Hitting The Auction Block Tomorrow

Can you tell what’s wrong with this Ford GT40 just by looking at the pictures? Well, unless you’re a true fan of the American supercar, you won’t be able to, and that’s quite alright, because your neighbors, friends, family and everyone else won’t know your little secret, if you decide to buy it.

The truth is that this GT40 is not actually a Ford, but a replica built by one of the best in the game: Roaring Forties. And since it’s not part of the original batch, this means that it should go relatively easy on your wallet.

Should you want to park it in your driveway and become the envy of the entire block, neighborhood, and probably the whole town, then you will have to attend the SilverstoneAuctions event in Birmingham, UK, on November 9-10. The auction house believes that it will change hands for £65,000-£75,000 ($81,793-$94,376 / €74,168-€85,578), plus a buyer’s premium of 15 percent, tax included, or about as much as a new BMW M4 Coupe or Porsche 718 Cayman GT4.

First registered on May 16, 2008 and with two previous owners, this GT40 replica has covered just 2,500 miles (4,023 km). It’s finished in Ford Imperial Blue with Silver Stripes on top of a Black interior, features air conditioning and looks absolutely stunning. It rides on 17-inch wheels as opposed to the original 15-inch set, which gives it a wide choice of tires that can withstand speeds of over 180 mph (290 km/h).

And it needs good rubber, as is has approximately 450 brake horsepower to play with. It uses a 1970s Ford small-block V8, with its displacement increased from 5.0 to 5.6 liters and fitted with electronic fuel injection, Motec ECU and other parts. Due to the block’s age, it can easily pass the MoT as the only regulations at the time were for visible smoke. It is paired to a six-speed transmission with a Quaife limited-slip differential and can rev up to 6,500 rpm.
