The 1980 Lincoln Continental Mark VI isn’t highly sought-after by collectors, but this particular car is up for sale at $27,900.

That’s almost as much as a new Lincoln, but this Continental is an automotive time capsule which has only been driven 1,584 miles (2,549 km) since it was purchased at Pfeiffer Lincoln in Grand Rapids, Michigan 40 years ago.

Unsurprisingly, there’s a story behind the car and it’s remarkable condition. According to Vanguard Motor Sales, the original owner purchased the car in 1980 and drove the Continental for 1,500 miles (2,414 km) before suddenly passing away.

Following their death, the Lincoln was put into heated storage for years. The estate eventually sold the car back to Pfeiffer Lincoln which brought it back up to running condition. As part of the process, they installed new belts and hoses, a battery and a gas tank. They also gave the model a tune up and converted the air conditioning system to 134.

The dealership then sold the Continental to an “older gentleman” in 2012. Since the man was already living in a retirement home, he didn’t drive it much and mostly kept the vehicle in storage. He passed away two years later and, like before, his family kept the car in heated storage.

The car was eventually acquired by Vanguard Motor Sales which is listing it for a tad under $28,000. That’s a lot for a 40 year old car, but the Continental looks like it just rolled off the assembly line.

While the model isn’t luxurious by today’s standards, it has poofy leather seats and acres of wood trim. There’s also a digital instrument cluster, a CB radio and a “quadrasonic” stereo system with a tape player.

Power is provided by a 5.8-liter V8 engine which reportedly produces 140 hp (104 kW / 142 PS) and 265 lb-ft (359 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a four-speed automatic transmission which sends power to the rear wheels.
