The McLaren 720S and Dodge Challenger SRT Demon are two of the most accelerative production vehicles on the planet right now and this video shows that when modified, the duo are very evenly matched.

The white 720S featured in this clip has undergone a series of upgrades to its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 lifting output from 710 horsepower (manufacture at the crank) to 900 hp at the rear wheels when running on race gas. Such a significant horsepower gain over a standard model results in truly frightening acceleration.

In a similar vein, the 6.2-liter V8 engine of the red Dodge Demon, which in stock form, nets 840 horsepower and 770 pound-feet of torque allowing the coupe to hit 60 mph (96km/h) in 2.3 seconds, 100 mph (160km/) in 5.1 seconds and fly through quarter-mile lights in 9.65 seconds at 140 mph (225 km/h) has been massaged. In particular, thanks to a tune as well as upgrades to the supercharger pulley, exhaust, and a new throttle body, it is good for 977 hp at the rear wheels and was rolling on drag tires when it went up against the McLaren.

In the first of the two races held, the Dodge gets off the line a touch quicker than the McLaren. However, the British supercar manages to overtake the Demon towards the end of the quarter-mile, in no small part thanks to its far lighter overall weight. In this race, the 720S set a time of 9.069 seconds at 155.08 mph (250 km/h) while the Dodge ran a 9.102-second quarter mile at 149.86 mph (241 km/h).

Sadly, the second race wasn’t a contest as the Dodge’s front wheels lifted off the ground and the driver backed off the gas.
