The Jeep Renegade 4xe and Compass 4xe plug-in hybrids unveiled in Europe are the brand’s first-ever electrified models.

They hold special significance for the brand, as Jeep will electrify its entire lineup in the months and years to come, including in the United States. To showcase the capability of the Renegade 4xe and Compass 4xe, Jeep took them on an epic 3,800-km (2,361-mile) road test, from the Mirafiori plant in Turin to FCA’s proving ground in Arjeplog, Swedish Lapland.

Over the course of one week, the first Jeep plug-in hybrids were put through their paces in real-world scenarios, with FCA saying their electrified powertrains have been tested to their limits.

Both the Renegade 4xe and Compass 4xe have undergone various tests, checks, validations and fatigue testing simulating very different scenarios customers are likely to encounter every day.

Before you head over to the video, you should know Jeep’s plug-in hybrids have gone on sale across Europe. The timing is not ideal, given the coronavirus outbreak, but customers can get in touch with Jeep showrooms via the Google Hangouts Meet app.

Without leaving their home, customers can discover the new models, chat with a sales consultant and place an order for their vehicle. The first country to use this technology is Italy but others will follow.

Jeep’s new plug-in hybrid powertrain combines a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine driving the front wheels with an electric motor driving the rear axle for e-AWD capability. Available with a combined output of 190 PS (187 HP) or 240 PS (237 HP), the PHEVs will offer an all-electric driving range of up to 50 km (31 miles) in the Renegade 4xe.
