Russian car manufacturer Aurus has revealed that it has received 700 pre-orders for its Senat Convertible, unveiled last year.

Not a great deal is known about the Senat Convertible as the public was only given its first look at the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe-inspired car during a military parade last April. Little has been reported on the vehicle in English media since then.

Nevertheless, Aurus general director Adil Shirinov recently indicated to Sputnik News that the reception to the vehicle has been positive.

“There are currently over 700 applications, 65 of them are in the pre-contract stage – these are clients who are ready to conclude a contract,” Shirinov said.

The Senat Convertible is based around the Senat sedan but only features two doors and a less pronounced shoulder line. Inside, everything is much the same as the sedan.

Power is provided by a hybridized 4.4-liter V8 engine with no less than 590 hp and 649 lb-ft (880 Nm) of torque, all of which is funneled through a nine-speed automatic transmission powering all four wheels.

Aurus is run by Russia’s Central Scientific Research Automobile and Automotive Engine Institute and primarily produces vehicles for the country’s top officials. It remains unclear if the Senat Convertible is available to members of the general public.

A new vehicle is currently being developed by Aurus in the form of a luxury SUV dubbed the Komendant. It’s claimed the SUV will feature the same powertrain as the Senat and go on sale in 2022.
