Rolls-Royce doesn’t just build some of the most comfortable vehicles on the market but its engines are also incredibly smooth and refined. Just how refined? So refined that you can balance a nickel directly on the engine.

In a bid to show just how smooth the engine operates, Rolls-Royce Cleveland took to TikTok with one of the Cullinan’s it has in stock and proceeded to balance a nickel on the running engine. That engine, by the way, is a 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12 that delivers no less than 563 hp and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque.

While this all looks very cool and is bound to capture the attention of lots of young TikTok users, you don’t have to own a Rolls-Royce to be able to balance a coin on the engine. As Motor1 notes, inline-sixes, V8s, and V12s have excellent natural balance and if engineered right, suffer from very little vibration.

One of the videos featured below shows the 5.7-liter V12 engine of a BMW 850CSI being started up and revved to approximately 2,500 rpm while a coin was resting on its edge. The coin didn’t even move.

While looking up other demonstrations of very smooth engines, we came across a Top Gear review from way back in 1991 featuring the Lexus LS400. In that review, the presenter was able to balance a glass of water on the 4.0-liter V8 engine and the water itself didn’t even vibrate. What’s more, even when the engine was revved to 6,000 rpm, the water barely trembled.
