The Polestar 2 has an official range of 233 miles (375 km) under EPA estimates, which is below that of the Tesla Model 3 as well as the Swedish car manufacturer’s target.

Polestar had been promoting an EPA-estimated range of 275 miles (442 km). Evidently, it has fallen well short of that target. The Polestar 2’s range is also inferior to that of the entry-level Tesla Model 3 Standard Range that can travel 250 miles (402 km) on a single charge.

In addition to the range figure of 233 miles, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has rated the Polestar 2’s efficiency at 96 MPGe city, 88 MPGe highway, and 92 MPGe combined.

Nevertheless, it’s worth pointing out that EPA estimates can be quite conservative and in the real world, it’s very likely that the Polestar 2 might be able to travel more than the EPA’s 233-mile rating on a single charge, depending on the road and traffic conditions.

This EPA range figure isn’t the only piece of less-than-rosy news regarding the Polestar 2 in recent days. Earlier this month, Polestar announced it was recalling all examples of the 2, delivered to customers in Europe and China, citing a fault in the software of the battery-energy control module. The recall comes after three cars lost power while driving. As customer deliveries have yet to start in the United States, individual vehicles will be fixed (if necessary) before they are handed over to their owners.
