Following the unveiling of the BMW 4-Series Coupe and Convertible, attention is turning to the 4-Series Gran Coupe which has been spotted among a fleet of other prototypes.

Like the rest of the 4-Series lineup, the Gran Coupe adopts a massive grille that is flanked by sweptback headlights. Unsurprisingly, the front bumper also carryovers from the two-door variants.

Bigger changes occur aft of the A-pillar as the Gran Coupe has a long flowing roof and two rear doors. Other notable highlights include an upward sweeping beltline, a sportier greenhouse and flush-mounted door handles which echo those on the upcoming i4.

The rear end is effectively hidden in these photos, but previous spy shots have shown the model will follow in the footsteps of the coupe and adopt stylish taillights as well as a sporty dual exhaust system. Of course, the biggest difference is the liftgate which adds a dash of practicality.

Engine options will carryover from the coupe and this means we can expect a 430i variant with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder pumping out 255 hp (190 kW / 258 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. This should enable the Gran Coupe to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in less than six seconds.

Customers looking for something faster can opt for the M440i which will have a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six developing 382 hp (285 kW / 387 PS) and 364 lb-ft (494 Nm) of torque. This should lower the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time to approximately five seconds.

Previous reports have also suggested the Gran Coupe will receive an M variant. That remains unconfirmed but, if it happens, the car would have a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 473 hp (352 kW / 479 PS) and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque. There could also be a Competition variant with 503 hp (375 kW / 510 PS) and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque.

The 4-Series Gran Coupe is slated to be introduced next year and it will be followed by other prototypes seen in the pictures including the new 7-Series and X8.
