Die Hard is an iconic action movie which has spawned numerous sequels.

While some of them have been pretty bad – here’s looking at you A Good Day to Die Hard Bruce Willis is back as John McClane after an absence of nearly a decade. However, he’s not starring in a new action movie but rather a commercial for DieHard batteries.

Designed to promote the fact that DieHard batteries are now available at Advance Auto Parts, the two minute commercial sees McClane stranded following a dead battery. As he’s walking to Advance Auto Parts, he notices Theo (Clarence Gilyard Jr.) from the original movie.

McClane is then surrounded and smashes through the store window to escape. He then picks up a DieHard battery and makes his way outside by crawling through the vents.

As McClane begins running away, he’s hit by a limo driven by none other than Argyle (De’voreaux White). After a short chase, the duo return to McClane’s broken down car and he takes out Theo by tossing a grenade into an excavator. As they escape, Argyle steals McClane’s iconic “yippie ki yay” saying.

While it’s no Die Hard movie, it’s not a bad commercial – especially for one that wasn’t saved for the Super Bowl. Of course, there’s good reason for that as Advance’s Chief Marketing Officer noted cold weather is coming and battery failure is about to get a lot more common.

For his part, Willis said “Advance approached this like a motion picture – the script is clever, the production intense and the spot is entertaining. This is what ‘Die Hard’ fans expect. I think they will dig the DieHard-‘Die Hard’ mashup.”
