Hot on the heels of the surprise retirement of Louis Camilleri as the chief executive of Ferrari, a handful of prominent industry names have emerged as possible replacements.

Ferrari is currently headed up by FCA chairman John Elkann ,but it is understood he has no intention of keeping the top position for long. One name reportedly being considered as the successor to Camilleri is FCA chief executive Mike Manley.

56-year-old Manley first rose to prominence in 2009 when he took over Jeep, while following the death of Sergio Marchionne in 2018, he was appointed as the chief executive of FCA. However, as The Drive notes, it might be difficult for Manley to move to Ferrari while still finalizing the merger between FCA and PSA.

Other individuals reportedly being considered are Apple chief financial officer Luca Maestri and former Apple chief design officer Jony Ive, Reuters reports.

These aren’t the only names being touted. Another possible candidate is former Vodafone chief executive Vittorio Colao and Maserati chief operating officer Davide Grasso. For a brief time, there was even speculation that Stefano Domenicali, the former head of Ferrari’s racing division and chief executive of Lamborghini, could return to Maranello. However, a spokesman has confirmed that he remains committed to taking over as the chief executive of Formula 1 on January 1.

Regardless of what happens, there certainly is no shortage of experienced industry executives Ferrari can choose from. The individual who lands the top job will head up the company at an important time in its history, with a rollout of hybrid models planned and its first SUV just around the corner.
