General Motors is recalling a touch over 624,000 vehicles due to a seat belt issue.

A recall notice issued by the car manufacturer and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reveals that the front center seat belt may not be properly attached to the seats. Obviously, that is a serious safety concern and could result in injury or death in the event of a crash.

In total, 624,216 vehicles are being recalled. These consist of 2019-2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500s, 2019-2023 GMC Sierra 1500s, 2020-2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500s and 3500s, 2020 and 2021 GMC Sierra 2500s and 3500s, as well as the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon XL. The only vehicles being recalled are those with the available front bench seats.

According to the car manufacturer, employees realized during the vehicle assembly process that the seat supplier had not properly attached the front-center seat belt to the seat frame. Upon investigating the issue, General Motors found the same issue could impact a host of different models.

To rectify the issue, GM will notify owners and dealerships will inspect left-and right-side front-row center seat belt attachments free of charge.

The recall is expected to begin February 1, 2021, with contact to be made via first-class mail. Owners can also contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782 and Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 to see if their vehicle is included in this campaign.
