The Mazda RX-8 may not yet be considered an icon of the Japanese automotive industry but it has a strong following and is beloved by many enthusiasts. We’re not sure all those RX-8 purists will be particularly fond of this example that resides in the UK though.

The owner of this RX-8 clearly grew disinterested in the sports car’s on-road abilities and decided to shake things up a bit, turning it into an off-roader.

A little bit of digging reveals that this RX-8 shared to Reddit has ditched its original underpinnings and actually rocks the chassis of a 1988 Range Rover. It is also said to feature a 2.5-liter turbo-diesel engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Evidently, it will drive nothing like an RX-8 on the road, but the owner must have been willing to make that sacrifice to have an off-roader unlike any other.

In addition to the new chassis, we can see that the RX-8 now sits on a set of orange-painted wheels with beefy mud-terrain tires. There’s also a prominent bash plate at the front and a winch. We can also spot a set of yellow springs that no doubt play an important role in helping the car climb over difficult terrain and any obstacles it may face off the beaten path.
