Criminal charges against exotic car collector Benjamin Chen have been dropped in New York after he crashed a Gemballa Mirage GT in Manhattan last year.

Chen was arrested by police on the morning of April 7, 2020 after hitting no less than five cars while behind the wheel. He was charged with reckless driving and operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs. CCTV footage and videos posted to social media captured the incident in its entirety and yet, on Monday, the case was dismissed at the New York Criminal Court, Road & Track reports.

“The People are moving to dismiss this matter because the case cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt,” a record from the court appearance read.

Chen initially lost control of the modified Porsche Carrera GT on 11th Avenue and slammed into a parked Subaru Crosstrek and Toyota Sienna. This impact destroyed the front of the supercar, and yet, Chen kept on driving. Video showed him speeding down the street, running at least one red light, before losing control yet again and hitting three more parked cars. When the car finally ground to a halt and police responded, one officer could be heard on video saying Chen was “hammered.”

Chen has a history of crashing expensive exotics and has previously destroyed both a McLaren MP4C-12C and a Lamborghini Murcielago SV. It remains unclear if the Mirage GT has been repaired or deemed a write-off.
