The limited-edition GT-R50 created in collaboration with Italdesign may largely be a design exercise but as Nissan shows in this video, it also went to the trouble of upgrading the car’s performance.

Like all other R35-generation GT-R models, the GT-R50 uses a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6, but Nismo worked its magic on the engine at the Nissan Technical Center in order to make it more powerful.

Various alterations were made. For example, the GT-R50 by Italdesign features new turbochargers, connecting rods, pistons, camshafts, and a new catalytic converter. This video released by the Japanese car manufacturer shows a GT-R mule outfitted with this upgraded engine testing on a four-wheel dyno and all up, it delivers 710 hp and 575 lb-ft (780 Nm). Those are some serious figures and means the GT-R50 is a touch more powerful than the 690 hp Porsche 911 GT2 RS that also has a six-cylinder, 3.8-liter twin-turbo mill.

While Nissan clearly put a lot of effort into upgrading the engine, the key differentiator from the standard model is the overhauled exterior that was penned by Italdesign and features front and rear fascias that are drastically different than the regular model and include new headlights and taillights. There is also a unique hydraulic rear wing that really catches the eye.
