Alfa Romeo is finally launching the Giulia GTA and Giulia GTAm models, giving us the first chance to see the new super sedans out there, in the real world.

The limited-production Alfa Romeo is lighter, more powerful, and capable of carrying more speed on the twisty stuff from the Giulia Quadrifoglio it’s based on, thanks to a raft of upgrades designed in collaboration with Sauber Engineering, while the company’s F1 drivers had a hand in the model’s development too.

Production will be capped at 500 numbered examples for Europe, Middle East, and Africa regions, with the split between the GTA and GTAm models currently sitting at around 50:50. No official plans exist so far to introduce the Giulia GTA and GTAm models in the US market but previous reports suggested that there’s a chance the company might change its mind.

The new Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA is lighter by up to 100 kg (220 lbs) from the Quadrifoglio thanks to the wider use of lightweight materials throughout the car, including more carbon fiber and composite materials.

The twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 engine has been fitted with a new centrally-mounted titanium exhaust system by Akrapovič and a new ECU tune, making it slightly more powerful at 532 HP (540 PS). The engineers have also improved the air circulation in the cooling system while the engine features redesigned rods and pistons. 0-62 mph (100 km/h) takes just 3.6 seconds, partly thanks to an also-new Launch Control system.

Both the new Giulia GTA and GTAm come fitted with new 20-inch center-lock alloy wheels wrapped with sticky Michelin Cup 2 tires and feature wider tracks than the Quadrifoglio but the GTAm turns the aggression knob all the way up to 11, with its giant adjustable rear wing and the active front spoiler, which can be extended by up to 40 mm for track use. The GTAm also ditches the rear seats completely, featuring instead a half cage, a pair of moldings designed to hold helmets, and six-point seat belts by Sabelt, as well as side and rear windows made out of polycarbonate instead of glass.

The cabin in both the Giulia GTA and GTAm models features a full Alcantara upholstery, which includes the dashboard, door panels, side pillars, and the central trim on the bucket seats.

Prices for the new Alfa Romeo GTA start from 175,000 euros ($211k in current exchange rates) in Italy, with the Giulia GTAm priced from 180,000 euros ($217k). Each car will be accompanied by a Bell helmet in special livery, a car cover, and dedicated services by Alfa Romeo, while those opting for the GTAm will also get a full Alpinestars racing apparel.
