Yet again Porsche has been caught testing the new and improved Cayenne SUV, and although the camouflage is largely the same, the bright daylight helps reveal what it’s hiding beneath.

Starting at the front, Porsche seems to have installed a false front end, which is distorting the bumper and grille assemblies. Behind them, though we can see lots of radiators, which could hint at a new grille shape.

The camouflage over the headlights, too, is trying to suggest that they’re bigger than they are, but actual lights will likely shrink in size for the update. Fun fog lamps under them also suggest that the lighting technology on the new Cayenne will be complex.

Sadly, the all-black camo at the back end is doing a good job of hiding those taillights. The quad pipes under them have changed, though, since we last saw a similar test mule. Rather than the round pipes we saw in February, these are squared off.

From February 1

One change we did see back then, though, was the license plate location, which has moved from on the tailgate to lower on the bumper. That should help tidy up the aesthetics back there.

Inside, meanwhile, we can again see that Porsche has opted to get rid of the physical tachometer in the middle of its instrument cluster and is going all-digital for this model. A big infotainment screen has also previously been seen as well as the touch-capacitive buttons along the center console to control the HVAC system and other features.

Porsche just revealed its latest sixth-gen PCM infotainment system featuring better graphics, revised voice control software, and perhaps more importantly, Android Auto compatibility. The new infotainment system also features wireless Apple CarPlay and integrated support for Apple Music and Apple Podcasts.

Porsche’s new PCM 6.0 infotainment system will debut in the 911, Panamera, and Cayenne models, starting this summer.

One curious detail, though, comes in the form of a pair of cell phones resting where it doesn’t seem they should be able to. In the picture taken from outside the driver’s window, at the bottom-right corner, there are two cell phones standing up as if in a cup holder. Although that’s not too unusual, they appear to be where the gear selector should be. Whether this is just a case of the photo being taken at an odd angle or evidence of the depth of Porsche’s camouflaging prowess is hard to say at this point, but it’s giving us pause.

Unfortunately, we’re still unsure when Porsche is planning on revealing the updated Cayenne, but our information suggests that it will happen sooner rather than later.
