Attendees at the ongoing Goodwood Festival of Speed will be the very first to see the new BMW 2-Series Coupe which makes its global debut at the event.

BMW has brought along a purple example of the 2-Series Coupe to Goodwood, returning in 2021 after the event was canceled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. It will be featured in the ‘First Glance’ category throughout the weekend and be displayed alongside the BMW M5 CS.

The exterior design of the new 2-Series Coupe has split opinions but there’s no doubt that it certainly makes a statement. The front end is particularly eye-catching thanks to a pair of aggressive headlights and a more traditional and stylish kidney grille than some other new BMW models. A prominent shoulder line also catches the eye, as do the flared rear wheel arches and trunklid lip spoiler.

Different variants of the 2-Series Coupe will be offered depending on the market. In Europe it is available in 220i guise with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 181 hp and 221 lb-ft (300 Nm) of torque, allowing it to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 7.5 seconds. Europeans will also be able to buy the 2-Series Coupe in 220d form that sports a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel with mild-hybrid technology. It puts out 187 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque and hits 62 mph in 6.9 seconds.

Last but not least is the new M240i xDrive with a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder offering up 382 hp and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm), allowing for a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time in 4.3 seconds. The range will eventually be topped out by a new M2.
