The U.S. Treasury Department just auctioned off a bunch of iconic JDM cars that were illegally imported into the United States.

The vehicles were imported into the country with key mechanical components, including their engines and transmissions, completely removed. However, it appears as though each vehicle has its own respective engine, meaning it might not be all that difficult to get each and every car back up and running.

Among the cars seized include at least one Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R, a handful of Nissan S15 Silvias, at least three Honda Accord Euro models, two four-door RS4 Skylines, a Nissan Stagea, a Toyota Aristo, Toyota Chaser, and others.

The listing at Apple Auctioneering Co fails to specify just why the cars were seized but many of them are less than 25 years old and not eligible for importation into the United States. The Drive suggests it is also possible that those who imported the vehicles tried to declare them as non-salvageable in order to avoid certain taxes.

The listing ran for a week and ended on September 20. The winning bidder paid $148,000 for the entire lot, which seems very reasonable given just how many cars and engines were included in the auction.

Importantly, that winning bidder will have to export the vehicles out of the U.S. or they could be seized once again. Obviously, the feds aren’t going to pay the necessary transportation fees to get them out of the country, so the winning bidder’s bill will probably exceed $200,000 when it is all said and done.
