Back in April, Ford announced that the attractive Evos crossover would be bound for no other market than China. However, since then, we’ve been seeing more and more of what appears to be that vehicle in places that most certainly aren’t China, and the latest set of images captured by our spy photographers all but confirms it.

For the first time since its reveal, we’re seeing the car’s production face (every other prototype spotted thus far has been heavily camouflaged), and it appears nearly identical to the one originally presented back at the Shanghai Auto Show. With the same slim, hooked headlights that connect with a bar in the middle along with that wide octagonal grille, it’s hard to imagine what else this car could be.

The crossover’s ambiguous body style blurs the line between a lifted sedan/sportback and the ever popular crossover coupe more than anything we’ve seen to date, but it actually works quite well. Like the front, the rear also bears a strong resemblance to the original with its full-with light bar, albeit the taillight design is slightly different. However, given that difference, it’s possible that Ford was technically correct in saying that the Evos isn’t coming to other markets, but maybe only in the sense that it will be called something else for places other than China.

The leading speculation is that it will be a replacement for the discontinued Fusion/Mondeo sedan, but it could also possibly fill the shoes of the Edge crossover, which is on its way out as well. By combining the two, it could prove to be a popular vehicle and even an attractive alternative to the Mustang Mach-E for those who want a sporty crossover coupe without making the switch to electric. It’s been theorized that this replacement vehicle could be called the Fusion Active/Mondeo Active, which would be in line with Ford’s other not-quite-crossovers like the Fiesta and Focus Active.

All that being said, nothing has been confirmed, and it’s quite possible that this is just the Chinese-market Evos testing in other locations, so we’ll have to wait for an official announcement to find out for sure.
