The Bugatti Bolide was voted the world’s most beautiful hypercar by a jury of design professionals during the 36th Festival Automobile International in Paris. The limited-edition, track-focused model won in the hypercar category “by a substantial margin” among a total of four finalists.

While the other three contenders for the hypercar category were not named, the rules state they should be “cars produced in series but sold for more than 60,000 euros, which display a sporty design and outstanding performance”. Given that this is a yearly award, we guess the entries should be introduced in 2021.

Probably the most expensive model in the contest, the Bolide is the most extreme Bugatti ever made. Its design is characterized by a low body with numerous air ducts, X-shaped LED headlights and taillights, a roof-mounted scoop, a huge rear diffuser, a racing-style rear wing, and a centrally-mounted quad exhaust.

According to Bugatti Design Director Achim Anscheidt, the Bolide was an entirely new challenge for the design team, adding: “It’s an honor for us that the resulting design has won such a highly coveted award, voted for by experts in our field. Praise must go to the entire design team, each dedicated to their craft in harmonizing and perfecting all aspects of the Bolide’s design during an innovative four-months, purely digital process”.

Inside, there are no trim parts shared with the Chiron, with the Bolide featuring an ultra-low seating position. As explained by Frank Heyl, Bugatti Deputy Design Director, “There is a clear Bugatti identity in the cabin of the Bolide, but one without the flourishes or luxuries of our roadgoing hyper sports cars. The design is focused on creating a place of minimal distraction and maximum visibility, with a curving wraparound glasshouse and critical control functions that are literally at the driver’s fingertips”.

The Bolide was first unveiled in October 2020 in the form of a one-off concept car. Thanks to the overwhelming response from its customers, in August 2021 Bugatti revealed the track-only production version of the hypercar that will be limited to 40 units.

In concept form, the quad-turbo 8.0-liter W16 engine produced an astonishing 1,824 hp (1,850 PS/1,360 kW) using 110-octane race fuel. However, the production version delivers a more sensible but still impressive 1,578 hp (1,600 PS/1,176 kW) on the widely available 98-octane gas.

The first deliveries of the Bugatti Bolide are scheduled for 2024. Each of the 40 units of the hypercar is priced at €4 million ($4.7 million)
