Lately, it’s all about hypercars with four-digit horsepower figures but a newly established Italian car manufacturer called Bermat has a different approach for their first production model. The Bermat GT sportscar wants to bring the Italian-style Grand Tourismo back with a customizable design, different variants and decent performance figures.

Bermat, which is headquartered in Rovereto, is named after the initials of its founder, Matteo Bertezzolo. The car was developed in collaboration with JAS Motorsport and was designed by Camal Studio.

The company announced the track-only Bermat GT-Pista which will be the first to roll out in the first half of 2022, followed by the street-legal GT in ICE-powered and fully electric variants.

According to its designer, the Bermat GT is inspired by an “unidentified flying object” brought back to Earth. From our perspective, there is a hint of Ascari at the front and a strong essence of La Ferrari and McLaren P1 GTR at the back. Overall, it is a handsome sportscar with a low and sharp nose, gullwing doors, lots of naked carbon fiber, and yellow-painted side intakes hugging the heavily sculpted body.

The track-only GT-Pista variant comes with a racing livery and a fixed rear spoiler. It is measuring 4,600 mm (181 inches) long, 2,000 mm (78.7 inches) wide, and 1,200 mm (47.2 inches) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,600 mm (102,4 inches). Thanks to the carbon-fiber body and the lightweight monocoque T-MM platform, the car weighs around 1,100 kg (2,425 pounds). It also complies with FIA safety regulations for the CN category.

The GT-Pista is fitted with a longitudinaly-positioned supercharged 2,0-liter four-cylinder engine producing between 320-400 hp (239-299 kW / 325-406 PS) with a torque of up to 450 Nm (332 lb-ft). Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox and with the help of a self-locking differential, allowing a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in around 4 seconds.

As you would expect from the car’s name, its setup is track-focused with push-rod suspension featuring adjustable shock absorbers. The 19-inch OZ Racing rims are shod in Pirelli DHB tires measuring 245/645R18 at the front and 265/645R18 at the back. Braking comprises 380 mm self-ventilating discs with six-piston calipers at the front and 355 mm self-ventilating discs with four-piston calipers at the rear.

Inside, there is a 12-inch digital instrument cluster surrounded by the climate vents, reminding us of the layout of Ferrari’s latest models. There is also a high-mounted knob on the center console which looks like the main controller. Steering-wheel-mounted buttons can be found in both the street-legal and track-only variants with the latter featuring a racing-style wheel.

Bermat is proud of the high levels of personalization it will be offering, stating that it will be “The first car manufacturer capable of putting the customer at the centre of the project”. However, from their press release, it seems that the customization is limited to the colors/liveries of the bodywork and the interior.

The company didn’t provide information on the street-legal Bermat GT or the upcoming fully electric version, other than they are expected to arrive in 2022, following the track-only Bermat GT-Pista. Pricing is not disclosed, nor is the production targets for this newly established Italian manufacturer.
