It’s only been a few months since The Grand Tour’s latest special of its fourth season was released and already, we are eagerly awaiting the next film and have started browsing YouTube, reminiscing about some of the finest days of Top Gear.
When Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May were at the helm, Top Gear was one of the biggest shows on TV. We all have our favorite episodes and segments from the show and a highlight that recently stood out to us was Top Gear’s test of the Ferrari FXX.
Nowadays, it has become quite common for exotic car manufacturers to release high-performance models that can only be legally driven on track but when the FXX was launched, there wasn’t really anything quite like it. Based on the road-going Enzo, it was the ultimate supercar in the automaker’s line-up and only available to the most prolific of Ferrari collectors.

When Top Gear tested the FXX, there was a catch. Rather than Clarkson or one of his co-hosts driving it around the Dunsfold Aerodrome, it only completed a flying lap of the circuit. It appeared to be driven by The Stig but later in the episode, it was revealed that it wasn’t really The Stig who was driving and was instead Michael Schumacher. The FXX used was also owned by Schumacher himself.
Given that the FXX was designed specifically for use on racetracks, it was no surprise when it set a new lap record, recording a time of 1:10.7. That made it 6.6 seconds faster than the previous record-holder, the street legal Gumpert Apollo. However, given that the FXX is not street legal, the time was removed from TG’s board.
