The four BMW M4 GT3 race cars set to compete in this year’s DTM championship have just been unveiled.

Both the Walkenhorst Motorsport and Schubert Motorsport teams will each run two M4 GT3s throughout the season. While the DTM championship used to feature bespoke race cars, it now hosts GT3-spec racers.

Racing for Walkenhorst Motorsport will be two-time DTM champion Marco Wittman and Esteban Muth. Wittman will drive a striking green car with Schaeffler sponsorship while his teammate, Muth, will pilot a black and dark blue M4 GT3 with CATL and IQOO sponsorships.

“Schaeffler is looking forward to the continuation of a long and successful partnership with BMW M Motorsport and, it goes without saying, to seeing our Schaeffler brand ambassador Marco Wittmann back on the grid for Walkenhorst Motorsport in the ‘Green Machine,” director for sponsoring at Schaeffler, Sören Zinner said. “Nowadays, it is hard to imagine Schaeffler without the partnership with Marco. We are certainly expecting an exciting DTM season in the new BMW M4 GT3 with Schaeffler technology.”

As for the Schubert Motorsport team, they will race with Sheldon van der Linde piloting the Shell-sponsored car and teammate Philipp Eng racing a blue, black, and white M4 GT3 with a RoboMarkets livery.

The BMW M4 GT3 was unveiled in mid-2021 as the replacement to the M6 GT3. It is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged straight-six pumping out roughly 590 hp and mated to an Xtrac six-speed transmission driving the rear wheels. By comparison, the old M6 GT3 rocked a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with 580 hp.

A plethora of aerodynamic upgrades differentiates the M4 GT3 from the road-legal car. Most notably, it rocks a massive rear wing, has flared fenders, a front fascia with a revised grille, and a distinctive hood with large air vents.

The 2022 DTM season kicks off on April 30 at Portugal’s Portimão circuit.
