The BMW X5 M is about to get a facelift, but those interested in spicing up the current model can visit German tuner Hamann GmbH. A series of visual modifications help the performance-focused SUV stand out from the crowd, with the vivid paint scheme and the matching accents justifying “The Big Red” nickname.

Hamann’s dress includes a prominent front splitter with integrated faux intakes, bringing the SUV closer to the ground. The same theme is followed by the side sill extensions and the rear bumper add-ons. The highlight of the rear end is the new diffuser featuring red accents, and the visibly larger carbon-coated 115-mm quad tailpipes. Hamann didn’t neglect the upper part of the bodywork, adding a rear spoiler extension.

Setting aside the fancy M Toronto Red Metallic exterior shade, the most eye-catching feature of this X5 M is the wheels. The multi-spoke 23-inch Anniversary Evo rims are finished in glossy black, with matching red accents on the ring, while owners can also get them in black, graphite grey, or hyper silver. A set of Continental Sport Contact 7 tires measuring 315/25R23 will help with handling, alongside Hamann’s lowered springs which reduce ground clearance by 40 mm (1.6 inches) at the front and 35 mm (1.4 inches) at the back.

Inside, Hamann added a generously-sized red-painted crest on the carbon-fiber center console, and a black emblem on the steering wheel letting everyone know that this is not a stock BMW. Other interior upgrades include the sports pedals and Hamann branding on the footrests, floormats, trunk, and LED puddle lights.

Unlike other tuners like Manhart or G-Power which offer hefty power upgrades for the X5 M, Hamann didn’t mess up with the SUV’s powertrain. The quickest member of the X5 range with the M Competition badge comes fitted with a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 producing 617 hp (460 kW / 625 PS) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) right from the factory. This is enough to propel the 2.4-tonne vehicle from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.7 seconds.

Browsing through the tuner’s website we found the cost of the modifications. If you want your X5 M to look like “The Big Red” you’ll need to spend €1,570 ($1,573) for the front spoiler, €2,677 ($2,683) for the side skirts, €1,071 ($1,073) for the rear skirt, €1,081 ($1,083) for the diffuser, €880 ($882) for the rear spoiler, €628 ($629) for the lowering springs and a full €6,620 ($6,625) for the 23-inch alloy wheels. The interior bits and pieces are significantly cheaper, while the cost of the carbon-coated tailpipes is unknown.
