2023 Nissan X-Trail Coming To Australia With e-POWER System

Specifications for the 2023 Nissan X-Trail have been announced for the Australian market, coinciding with the European launch of the SUV.

Entry-level variants of the 2023 X-Trail come outfitted with an updated version of the old model’s 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine. This engine is good for 135 kW (181 hp) and 245 Nm (180 lb-ft) of torque and is coupled exclusively to a CVT. Customers can choose between front- or all-wheel drive.

Arguably of more importance is confirmation that the X-Trail’s e-POWER system will be available in Australia. While specifications for this powertrain haven’t been announced for the local market, we know that in European guise it features a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine acting as a generator for the electric motor. This model pumps out a total of 150 kW (201 hp) in front-wheel drive specification but Australian shoppers will only have the option of four-wheel drive, in the form of the e-4ORCE version.

Output in this model has been upped to 157 kW (211 hp) in European specification thanks to the addition of a 94 kW (126 hp) electric motor at the rear. This reduces the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint to 7 seconds and increases the top speed to 112 mph (180 km/h). The e-4ORCE system also controls torque distribution and braking for each wheel, resulting in improved grip.

As one would expect from a Nissan, it will offer unique customer appeal. We can’t wait to see it in our showrooms.”

While Australian pricing for the 2023 X-Trail kicks off at A$36,750 ($24,710) with the 2.5-liter engine and tops out at AU$52,990 ($35,630), Nissan has not yet announced pricing for the e-POWER version. What we do know is that deliveries of the X-Trail e-POWER will commence in early 2023 while the combustion-powered models will land in the hands of customers during the fourth quarter of this year.
