Earlier this year, Lexus took the wraps off a sporty vision of electric excitement. Although it remains unnamed until now, the Lexus Electrified Sport concept has been making the rounds through the U.S. and its latest stop was at the Detroit auto show.

Seen on the show floor, the Electrified Sport concept looks even smaller and lower-to-the-ground than it did in press photos. Its front splitter looks low and sharp enough to trim the auto show’s taller carpet fibers.

Intended as a design study that previews an electric sports car that “inherits the driving taste, or the secret sauce of… the LFA,” this concept car shares its classic coupe proportions with that neo-classic sports car.

The concept reworks several of the design ideas first demonstrated on the LFA, but modernizes them for current tastes. The rear shoulder, for instance, features a forward facing wave shape that crashes over the side window, recalling the rear air inlet of the V10 sports car.

The rear end, meanwhile, features two large black sections under the taillight, just like its forebear. The shape of the rear bumper, too, hearkens back to the LFA, which had exhaust outlets stacked vertically.

This model won’t, however, need any tailpipes, because it may be powered by solid state batteries that give it a 430 mile (700 km) range. Electric motors will be capable of getting it to 62 mph (100 km/h) in the low two-second range.

“Through its development of pure electric vehicles, Lexus will evolve into a brand that offers a range of driving experiences, harnessing its unique performance development capabilities and honing its craft of making products that are ever more personalized in their performance, quality and appeal,” Lexus said earlier this year.
