The Mazda CX-60 will soon launch in Australia where it will be offered exclusively in hybridized form.

Local buyers will have three powertrains to choose from. The flagship model takes the form of a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder Skyactive-G engine that works alongside a 100 kW (134 hp) electric motor and a 17.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. It pumps out a total of 241 kW (323 hp) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque, making it the most powerful road car ever produced by the Japanese car manufacturer.

A pair of straight-six engines will also be offered. The first of these is a 3.3-liter e-SkyactiveD turbodiesel with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that’s good for 187 kW (251 hp) at 3,750 rpm and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque between 1,500 and 2,400 rpm. Mazda will also offer a 3.3-liter turbocharged petrol straight-six that doesn’t really impress with an output of 209 kW (280 hp) at 5,000 rpm and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque between 2,000 and 3,500 rpm.

All three powertrains work alongside an eight-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic transmission with a rear-biased i-Activ all-wheel drive system.

Three model grades will be available in Australia, namely the Evolve, GT, and Azami. All three grades will come with standard features like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, a powered tailgate, exterior powered mirrors with auto-folding, heating, and auto-dimming functions, and advanced keyless entry.

Mazda Australia has also confirmed that wheels varying between 18-inches and 20-inches will be offered and that a new shade of white, dubbed Rhodium, will be offered across all grades.

“The CX-60 represents a whole new chapter for Mazda and introduces a series of firsts for the brand: an all-new platform; full plug-in hybrid technology; rear-biased all-wheel drive and state-of-the-art longitudinal powerplants,” Mazda Australia managing director Vinesh Bhindi said in a statement. “All of this is wrapped in our beautifully restrained Kodo Design evolution, and as we draw closer to the local introduction of this authentically premium vehicle, the 14,500+ expressions of interest we have already received are a clear indication of the level of anticipation that already surrounds Mazda CX-60.”

Full specifications for Australia’s Mazda CX-60 will be announced later this year.
