The Porsche 911 is ready for its mid-lifecycle update but before that happens, the French division of the automaker has another ace up its sleeve. A teaser shot of a mysterious 911 variant – most likely another heritage-themed special edition – was published by Porsche France on social media, ahead of its debut on June 29 in Le Mans Classic.

The dark teaser shows a Porsche 911 parked in the pits of the La Sarthe circuit, with a Porsche 356 SL Gmund Coupe in front of it. The classic racer with the low drag body won its class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1951. The biennial Le Mans Classic event will be held between June 29 and July 3 this year.

As for the 911 that’s hiding in the shadows, we blew up the brightness of the teaser photo to see if we can reveal more styling cues. The rear bumper appears to be sourced from either the 911 Carrera with the optional Sport Design package or the sportier 911 GTS. Likewise, the taillights, engine cover, roof, and the rest of the bodywork appear to be identical to the current 992. Furthermore, the model is definitely not the upcoming 911 ST which has been spied with a few GT3 bits and a bubble roof from the Sport Classic.

The mysterious model might be a special edition of the current 911 specific to the French market. Furthermore, the “29/06/2023. 9h11. #BornInLeMans” description all but confirms the launch date and hints at the models’ references to the fabled race. This special model could be another collector’s item before the facelifted model arrives later this year, but we’ll find out for sure on June 29.
