Back when I was a student, most of my projects included bristol board. Not so for the students at Skoda’s vocational school who, since 2014, have been handed the reigns and told to create a one-off concept vehicle; this year’s concept is one of the most extensively modified to date.

For this project, the students decided to go overlanding with what they call the Roadiaq. Based on the Skoda Enyaq, the VW ID.4 sibling has been modified to work not only as a camper van but as a mobile office, too.

While the project normally requires Skoda’s students to collaborate with employees in the automaker’s different departments, this one required them to look outside the company, too. They turned to Cargodesign and KPS Automobile to help with the creation of the added bodywork and the new interior.

Thanks to the new roof section and the addition of a little bit of ground clearance, the Roadiaq is now nearly 14 inches (35 cm) taller than a standard Enyaq. That allows for more headroom in the rear, where the mobile office is set up.

In addition to a little desk, the workspace includes a 27-inch monitor, an integrated docking station, and a permanent internet connection. Perhaps the most important part of the office is the espresso machine that helps bridge the gap between office time and camping time.

After office hours, the workspace converts into a bedroom, while a tent also goes up to shelter the mobile kitchen included in this design. It also comes with chairs, tables, pots, pans, wireless speakers, flashlights, and more. To help power the Roadiaq, solar cells have been mounted to the new roof section.

In addition, the interior of the vehicle was reupholstered with fully recycled materials. The new cushions and blanket were crafted out of 3D knit materials that ensure a waste-free process.

The result of more than 2,000 hours of work over the course of nine months, this was the first Skoda student concept based on the Enyaq and one of the coolest to date.
