Lotus has confirmed that its next model, a four-door electric sedan it is referring to as a “hyper-GT” will be called the Emeya. That means that the car continues the brand’s longstanding tradition of starting its vehicles’ names with the letter E.

In a teaser video, some of the car’s design cues can be seen, though it is mostly covered in darkness. That’s because Lotus isn’t quite ready to unveil the Emeya yet, and will do so at an event in New York on September 7.

The brand’s first sedan model since the collaboration with Opel and Vauxhall that gave birth to the Omega-based Lotus Carlton is poised to rival the likes of the Porsche Taycan, the Mercedes EQE, and the Tesla Model S. Although specific details regarding the Emeya have not been shared, it is anticipated that the sedan will draw extensively from its crossover stablemate, the Eletre, in terms of hardware.

The entry-level version of the electric SUV comes with a 112 kWh battery pack that offers drivers up to 373 miles (600 km) of range on the WLTP cycle. It powers a two-motor AWD system that develops 603 hp (450 kW / 612 PS) and 524 lb-ft (710 Nm) of torque and gets the SUV up to 62 mph (100 km/h) in a respectable 4.5 seconds.

A higher-performance variant is also expected, and may produce up to 905 hp (675 kW / 918 PS) and 726 lb-ft (985 Nm) of torque. The Eletre R, with a similar powertrain, reaches 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 2.95 seconds, though range is limited to 304 miles (490 km).

Spy photos reveal that the Emeya will have a swept back, streamlined shape, that will likely help it cut through the air efficiently. Slim cameras, instead of mirrors, appear to also be available, which should further improve its coefficient of drag.

Inside, the design is expected to once again echo the Eletre SUV, but rumors about an infotainment system with screens that stretch from one end of the dash to the other suggest that some updates could come, too.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until September 7 to find out for sure what’s going on inside, outside, and under the Emeya EV. Sales are expected to start in 2024
