From the moment the R35-generation Nissan GT-R was unveiled, it was only a matter of time before it would become a relatively affordable sports car on the used market. Now, we have found what could very well be the cheapest R35 GT-R in the United States and it needs a new home.

This particular GT-R is a 2009 model and has been listed for sale in Santa Rosa, California. It has an asking price of just $34,000 and while that sounds cheap, it needs some serious repairs if it is to ever be returned to its former glory.

For starters, there is the exterior. The owner has equipped it with the front and rear fascias of a 2020 GT-R but has left them unpainted and finished in matte black, meaning they don’t match the silver adorning the rest of the bodywork. Additionally, we can see that the car is sitting on a set of rather ugly aftermarket wheels finished in black and the seller adds that it has an aftermarket exhaust with catless downpipes and a muffler delete.

Some changes have also been made to the car’s interior, the Craigslist ad reveals. For example, it features new carbon fiber paddle shifters, has gold trim across the center console, and sports a large aftermarket infotainment display. For $34,000, it sounds like a good deal, right?

Well, the seller has added that they have previously driven the car into a ditch and that this caused the passenger seat airbag to go off. Even worse is the fact that the engine has metal shavings in the block and needs to be completely rebuilt before the car can be driven. It’s unclear how this happened but we suspect the car has been driven very hard in the past.

For those who’d rather not buy a used GT-R that needs an engine rebuild, we have also found a 2010 GT-R up for sale through Auto Trader for $53,000. While more expensive, it appears to be in better condition and its engine has been modified with 1,150 cc injectors, a Cobb access port, titanium mid pipe, and aftermarket downpipes to deliver 550 hp and 600 lb-ft (813 Nm) of torque at the wheels.
