Whether you’re into scale-model collecting or just appreciate when the toy aisle delivers something genuinely cool, there’s a new Hot Wheels release worth keeping an eye on.
If you’re a Honda fan with a soft spot for die-cast cars, this upcoming set is likely to hit all the right notes. Set to hit the shelves later this summer, the three-car collection highlights some of the Japanese automaker’s most iconic performance models. Priced to start just over $30, it’s positioned as a great gif, or a solid pickup for anyone looking to pad out their miniature garage. For those who don’t feel like waiting, pre-orders are open now at $64.99.

Perhaps the crown jewel of the set is a 2003 Honda NSX-R. The ultimate version of Honda’s popular mid-engined supercar was only built for the Japanese market and benefited from a host of performance modifications, allowing it to compete with the iconic Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale.
Honda’s designers and engineers developed a host of new carbon fiber panels for the car and ditched any parts they felt were unnecessary, including the power steering system. It also came out of the factory with Recaro carbon-kevlar seats. The 3.2-liter naturally-aspirated V6 was also fettled and is believed to have had more power than the standard model, despite Honda quoting the same 290 hp as the regular model.
Joining the NSX-R in the set is a 1999 Honda Civic Type R. This was the first iteration of the beloved hot hatch, known as the EK9. It has a high-revving 1.6-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder with 182 hp and 118 lb-ft (160 Nm) of torque.
Then there’s a very special Honda S2000. Rather than opting for one of the original models, Hot Wheels has built a model of the S2000 20th Anniversary that was unveiled five years ago. It was originally presented as a one-off prototype, but Honda did sell some of the updated components to owners, including the refreshed front bumper.
Each of the cars in the Hot Wheels set comes finished in Championship White, a color synonymous with Honda’s racing pedigree. And to cap it off, there’s also a Honda-branded truck in the box, presumably to haul your new tiny fleet from one imaginary track day to the next.
