- The new model will be manufactured in Brazil next to the Onix hatchback and sedan.

A new small SUV is on the horizon for South America, offering a fresh option for budget-conscious buyers. Chevrolet has offered an early glimpse of the model, which is set to debut in 2026. Although its name hasn’t been revealed, the SUV will wear the Chevrolet badge and be built at the Gravataí plant in Brazil, now celebrating its 25th anniversary.

This launch is tied to a broader investment plan worth R$1.2 billion (around $215.5 million) aimed at modernizing the Gravataí facility, a move announced in 2024. The new SUV is believed to ride on the same platform as the facelifted Onix hatchback and Onix Plus sedan, both of which are already produced at the plant.
Familiar Platform, Fresh Form
In the teaser image, the upcoming SUV shows off split LED headlights and a wide grille up front. Around back, there are slim LED taillights and a subtle roof spoiler. From the side, the proportions lean into crossover territory, with a slightly larger body and increased ground clearance when compared to the Onix hatchback.
While Chevrolet hasn’t released any technical specs, expectations point toward a turbocharged 1.0-liter flex-fuel engine delivering up to 121 horsepower. Like its Onix siblings, the SUV will likely offer a choice between a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission, both driving the front wheels.
The upcoming SUV (above) will be smaller than the recently facelifted Chevy Tracker (below).

Positioned Below the Tracker
This new model will slot in beneath the recently refreshed Chevrolet Tracker, which measures 4,270 mm (168.1 inches) in length. For comparison, the Onix hatchback comes in at 4,163 mm (163.9 inches). The Tracker, produced at the Sao Caetano do Sul plant, is also receiving updates for 2026, including exterior tweaks, a new digital cockpit, and chassis improvements.

When it arrives next year, the new entry-level SUV by Chevrolet will compete with the likes of the VW Tera, the Renault Kardian, the Fiat Pulse, and the Citroen Basalt. All of the aforementioned models are based on the equivalent small hatchbacks, offering extra practicality and a more adventurous stance.
According to Santiago Chamorro, president of GM South America, the new Chevrolet SUV was “developed 100% for the South American consumer.” That statement suggests the model is not expected to be offered outside the region.
