Motorsport legend Ken Block may no longer be with us after his tragic death nearly three years ago, but his spirit still burns through the tire smoke of Gymkhana. The latest installment sees rally ace and all-around daredevil Travis Pastrana return to the Hoonigan-produced series, this time behind the wheel of something unexpected; a heavily reimagined Subaru Brat.
The last time Pastrana was featured in a Gymkhana film came in late 2022 when he drove an incredible Subaru GL Wagon. For the latest in the long-running series, aptly titled Aussie Shred, he’s back in familiar territory with another Subaru creation, though this one might be his most outrageous yet.
Built by the wizards at Vermont SportsCar, the turbocharged Brat looks ready to chew through the Australian outback with glee.

Several years ago, there were plans to film Gymkhana 9 in Australia, but local police shut down the idea and didn’t want Block speeding on public roads. Times change, and it seems the authorities have softened their stance. Gymkhana has finally gone Down Under, and the country’s distinctive terrain provides the perfect stage.
The full list of filming locations isn’t yet known, but a brief teaser shows Pastrana in a mine, speeding through the desert, and hitting the famed Mount Panorama circuit during the recent Bathurst 1000. Like any good Gymkhana film, there’s plenty of sideways action and the intoxicating symphony of a Subaru.
What’s Under the Hood?
Powering the car is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder churning out 670 hp and 680 lb-ft of torque. This engine revs to an extraordinary 9,500 rpm and looks to have turned the Brat into an absolute animal. It also screams in a way unlike any other car used in a previous Gymkhana film.
Much like Pastrana’s Subaru GL Wagon, his Brat also has intricate active aerodynamics, including massive louvers on the front arches, perfect for high-speed jumps. It is also fitted with a lightweight carbon fiber body designed by Khyzyl Saleem and has been equipped with a retro-inspired livery, perfectly fitting for the Brat.
