- Nissan revealed its Tokyo Auto Salon 2026 lineup plans.
- A special Nismo concept was teased ahead of the event.
- Fairlady Z, Leaf Autech, and X-Trail will also appear.
Just one day after confirming it plans to double the size of its global performance lineup, Nissan offered up a first look at what might be next. A new Nismo concept, still cloaked in mystery, is set to appear at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026, taking place from January 9 to 11.
The single teaser image reveals a section of the car’s rear end, and it’s open to interpretation. From the shape alone, this could be anything from a low-slung sports car to a fastback coupe or even a coupe-style SUV.

The horizontal taillights appear nearly production-spec and are positioned just beneath a subtle lip spoiler. Look closer and you’ll spot vertical outlets sculpted into the outer edges of the rear fenders. The glasshouse angles downward, and the shut-lines suggest a hatchback rather than a traditional trunk.
A Shape in the Shadows
From this single image, it’s tough to determine whether the concept runs on internal combustion or electricity. Nissan hasn’t offered any technical specs yet, but with future models in the pipeline, this could be an early glimpse of one to come.

The brand has confirmed a separate Nismo prototype will enter racing events starting in the 2026 fiscal year, with a production version set to follow. Whether that’s the same vehicle as the one in the teaser remains unclear.
What Else is Coming to Tokyo?
Setting aside the concept, the Tokyo lineup includes a refreshed version of the Fairlady Z, set to arrive at Japanese dealerships in summer 2026. The model heading to the show is the Nismo variant, and it will feature a manual transmission.
Nissan will also show the new Leaf crossover in the premium Autech trim, a modified X-Trail Rock Creek Multibed Wildplay SUV designed for camping adventures, and a classic March hatchback that went through a complete restoration including a manual transmission conversion.
